The Severn Bridge was the first suspension bridge to be built across the Severn Estuary, opening in 1966. Linking England with South Wales, the bridge towers stand 136m high, and the total length of the bridge is 1.6km. The bridge was granted Grade I listed status in 1999. Even though a second crossing was opened downstream in 1996, an average of 25,000 vehicles per day still use the original crossing.
